C=T & photographer extraordinaire Todd Roeth have teamed up again for another addition of Quick Hits. This week, we have caught up with UK singer-songwriter, Marcus Foster. The solo artist is touring behind a a live album and EP. Not to mention appearing on two different soundtracks and having a heartthrob for a bff (my wife thinks he’s pretty dreamy). Needless to say, the guy is very busy and most earnest singer songwriter touring the circuit.

C=T : How’s the tour going so far? Did you visit In and Out or Amoeba whilst in Los Angeles?

MF: The tour seems to be going well, people are enjoying the shows, its amazing traveling around and a great way seeing America. I didn’t get the chance to visit In and Out burger although someone gave me a voucher for it but i did get to go to Amoeba which was insane I spent hundreds of dollars in there buying old blues and gospel records from the fifties I could live in that place.

C=T : Best Bob Dylan album to listen to on vinyl?

MF: I haven’t got them all on vinyl just yet but listening to ‘Boots of Spanish Leather’ or ‘One too many Mornings’ off the ‘Times they are a changing’ album is pretty special.

C=T : Your music has been selected on two different occasions to appear in cinema. How do you decide if you want your work to appear in said works?

MF: One of the films had Christopher Walken in it and I’m a big fan of his so I couldn’t say no and it’s a great movie called ‘Five Dollars A Day’. The other film was different because a friend of mine sung the song that I wrote and I didn’t know he recorded it but when I found out I thought why not.I would like to do some more music for film, I like the idea of doing something like Neil Young in that film ‘Dead Man’ where he just watched the film and played his guitar. I also write a lot of instrumental stuff on the piano.

Sometimes being bitten by a vampire can be a good thing. At least, musically speaking.

Bobby Long was an unknown 21-year-old London songwriter when he played his song “Let Me Sign” for a musician-actor buddy named Robert Pattinson.

“Me and my friend Marcus Foster co-wrote it. Robert really liked it, and ended up singing it on the soundtrack of this film he was in,” Long said.

The film just happened to be “Twilight,” the 2008 teen vampire love story that grossed nearly $400 million worldwide. “Twilight” made Pattinson an instant heartthrob, and suddenly the music industry was curious about Long.

“It’s just one of those crazy things,” said Long, 22.

“It’s really so simple a story, I feel like dusting it up, to make more of it than it really is,” said Long, speaking in a thick Lancashire County accent from a hotel room in Florida.

Last year, Long was a folkie singersongwriter with no popularity, on the bottom rung of the ladder in London.

In the spring, Long sang for music industry types in New York, Los Angeles and Nashville, Tenn. He signed a publishing deal with Bug Music. Now he’s in the middle of a 100-gig tour across Europe and America, with a stop at Club Passim in Cambridge Wednesday.

To call Long a rookie in the recording business is an understatement. He still doesn’t have a proper album to his name.

“When I came to America to meet the music industry people in April, I realized I needed something on record. So I sat in my bedroom and recorded 10 songs straight in an hour!”

anyone else getting tired of the fact that they always tie in Twilight? *sigh* He’s a brilliant musician in his own right.

If you are a true Twilight fan, you know exactly who Bobby Long is. If you aren’t a fan or possibly even an anti-fan, then you should definitely take this opportunity to get to know him. Bobby put on a show Sunday (8/23), at The Dunedin Brewery. During the performance, he announced he would be coming back on Thursday (8/27), for a secret show.

With the announcement of the surprise show, I saw an opportunity to possibly steal Bobby for a moment and talk with him about his life on tour, his fans and his budding career in the music industry. The interview went better than this little Examiner writer could’ve ever hoped for.

Bobby had a surprising career boost when a song he co-wrote with his friend, Marcus Foster, was added to the Twilight soundtrack. The song on the soundtrack is performed by another friend of his, Robert Pattinson.

The first movie in the Twilight Saga was shockingly successful and now it appears that Summit Entertainment, the production company who makes the film, is going to market it from every angle possible. I asked Bobby if he was at all concerned with a possible backlash, from the oversaturation, that is bound to occur. He answered, “No, my role in that film is basically like the kid that tapes the wires down. I’m not worried about it.”

Death Cab for Cutie’s contribution to the “New Moon” soundtrack, “Meet Me on the Equinox,” will premiere on MTV.com on September 13, the day of the Video Music Awards.

In an exclusive interview with MTV News, DCFC bassist Nick Harmer talked about the song — which will be the lead single from the second film in the “Twilight” series — and the mysterious way it ended up on the most-anticipated soundtrack of the year.

“We didn’t expect it would be chosen for the first single — we were thinking it would be a part of the soundtrack, maybe,” Harmer laughed. “I have no idea if [‘Twilight’ author] Stephenie Meyer approved it or what. It’s been an exciting process, because we’ve been so removed from it. We were in L.A. for a week and we went into the studio and wrote and recorded the song and submitted it. We didn’t know where anything stood, and then we just got a call last week like, ‘Guess what — your song has been chosen as the first single.’ ”

Harmer is the first to admit that Death Cab and “Twilight” seem like an unusual pairing (only guitarist/producer Chris Walla has read the entire series), but upon closer inspection, they actually have plenty in common: most of which has to do with geography and, of course, matters of the heart.

“The big connection for us is ‘Here’s a wildly popular book series about vampires — which are awesome — set in the Northwest,’ and we happen to be from the Northwest as well, so there’s this sort of hometown pride kind of thing going on,” Harmer said. “I’m kind of happy that Stephenie Meyer put Forks, Washington, on the map for the entire globe.

“I think that a lot of our songs in general concern a lot of the things the main characters in the books are going through: There’s a lot of stuff about relationships beginning and ending, and the questioning that happens around being in love and falling out of love,” he continued. “That’s a comfort zone for us, so a lot of the lyrical content [frontman] Ben [Gibbard] writes also happens to line up with what the characters are going through in the film. Basically the ‘Twilight’ series is about love, and that’s a major theme for us. So, it wasn’t difficult for us at all.”

As for the song itself, Harmer describes it as “pretty dark and brooding, lyrically,” and though it was written specifically for the “New Moon” film, don’t expect it to vary much from the Death Cab formula.

“I’m pretty sure Ben didn’t try to write a song from the perspective of one of the characters from the novel. The emotional stuff is what he homed in on, because that’s what we do,” he said. “It’s an uptempo song … it fits right into the Death Cab canon. The lyrics are darker and brooding, the music is a little more up. I don’t know if it’s a rock song … when you hear it, you’ll think, ‘Yep, that’s a Death Cab song.’ ”

Beverly Hills, 90210 breakout star Dustin Mulligan was once a frontrunner for the role of vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight film series — but lost the role to heartthrob Robert Pattinson because he wasn’t British enough.

“Unfortunately, I didn’t have a British accent so, I didn’t get the job,” Dustin, who plays Ethan on The CW’s modern-day revival of 90210.

Dustin says he was most disappointed about the fact he wouldn’t have the chance to work with his In the Land of Women co-star Kristen Stewart for a second time.

“Kristen was actually a remarkable young woman. I met her when she was 15… She’s really really smart… She’s got the potential to do anything,” the young actor told Access Hollywood on Wednesday.

If this is real, then it’s kind of ridiculous. Rob uses an American accent in the movie, so him being British has nothing to do with it. *Rolls eyes* whatever makes you feel better about yourself, Dusty 😛

EDIT: it is true, but the article kinda took it out of context. This is what I get for not completing the research before I post.
